Older Houses and Hillside Lots

Many of the houses near the Cuyahoga River and the older streets around downtown Cuyahoga Falls sit on sloped lots. That changes the plumbing more than people expect. A sewer lateral may run steeply downhill to the street or, on the low side of a street, barely fall at all, which leaves it prone to sags and slow flow. Basements on the downhill side of a hill take on more groundwater in spring, so their sump pumps run harder and longer. And the age of the houses means clay and cast iron sewer pipe, galvanized supply lines and decades of mixed repairs are common.

None of that is unusual for us; it is most of what we see. It does mean a camera inspection or a look at the existing piping often comes before a firm plan.
